We’ve come a long way since our early startup days, growing not just in size, but in the depth and strength of our team. One of the most meaningful markers of that growth is building the kind of leadership that helps a company scale with intention. Earlier this summer, we welcomed Brii Yeje as PowerMarket’s first Human Resources Manager. Brii brings a well of experience and a thoughtful, people-first approach that’s already shaping how we support and grow our team. We’re thrilled she’s here.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
I’m a proud Atlanta native and first-generation American on my father’s side — and the first in my family to earn a college degree. I hold a Bachelor’s in Economics with a minor in Spanish from Georgia State University, where I earned multiple scholarships that gave me the incredible opportunity to study abroad twice. I spent my sophomore year at Ca’ Foscari University in Venice, Italy, diving into international economics, and later completed my Spanish minor in Costa Rica, living with a host family and fully immersing myself in the language and culture.
My professional journey began in finance, where I quickly obtained my Series 6, Series 63, annuities, and life insurance licenses within six months as a financial representative. But I knew I was meant for more. In 2018, I packed my bags and moved to New York City to pursue my Master of Science in Global Affairs at NYU, with a focus on the global economy and the private sector.
Just before the world shut down for COVID, I completed my degree and found myself thriving in a high-impact role at an executive search firm. That experience solidified my path in strategic HR management — a space where I’ve continued to grow, lead, and make a difference ever since.
What does your day-to-day look like in your role at PowerMarket?
No two days are the same at PowerMarket, and that’s exactly what I love about it. One day I might be developing new policies and programs to support our rapid growth, and the next I’m picking up cupcakes to celebrate a team member’s birthday or work anniversary. Being part of a mission-driven organization means jumping in at every stage, and I thrive in the variety and take pride in showing up wherever I’m needed to keep the company moving forward.
How does your work contribute to PowerMarket’s mission and the broader energy transition?
I have the privilege of advancing PowerMarket’s mission by supporting its greatest asset — our people. I do this by setting our team up for success every day.
Whether I’m navigating compliance requirements, designing scalable policies, recruiting top-tier talent to keep workloads balanced and our culture thriving, bridging communication across departments, or simply being a sounding board for a teammate who needs support, I’m proud to show up where it counts.
It’s an honor to make a meaningful impact by investing in our people, helping PowerMarket deliver better solutions that bring clean, affordable energy to more communities.
What are your long-term goals (either personally or professionally) in this field?
I take immense pride in how far I’ve come — both academically and professionally — because success has been a driving force for me since childhood. Coming from a lower-middle-class background, with many relatives who immigrated to the U.S., there’s always been a deep-rooted expectation to rise above the circumstances we were born into. For me, that means developing and growing into a C-level leadership role as a minority woman in corporate America — and doing so at a mission-driven company like PowerMarket makes the journey even more meaningful.
I’m deeply aligned with our purpose and energized by the impact we’re making. Our culture is truly special — collaborative, inclusive, and forward-thinking — and I see real potential to grow alongside the company. My long-term vision is to earn a seat at the executive table, leading my own team, as we continue scaling and delivering real-world change together.
What’s a small lifestyle change you’ve made to live more sustainably?
Outside of work, my biggest passion is still rooted in making an impact. About five years ago, I began a transformative weight loss journey and lost 180 pounds — an experience that completely reshaped my life and introduced me to a deep love for bodybuilding and weightlifting. Today, I’m proud to coach others on their own fitness paths, and it means the world to me when someone says my journey inspired them to take that first step. Helping people grow stronger — physically and mentally — is incredibly fulfilling.
When I’m not at the gym, you’ll likely find me in the kitchen. I’ve always had a sweet tooth, so baking is my happy place, with cooking coming in at a close second. It’s where I find peace, creativity, and joy.
I’ve been called an energizer bunny more times than I can count — I love staying busy, having plans, and staying engaged. But I’ll admit, nothing excites me more than the rare weekend with absolutely nothing on the agenda. Give me a few naps and a good home organization project, and I’m in heaven.
